Blame it on the ah-ah-ah

THE HANGOVER PART II (2011)

I admit I’m not the target audience for a movie like The Hangover. This is not my kind of humor. Especially not this sequel, which is tedious, boring and an exercise in flippancy. I never wanted Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to return in the first place but I still tried to put my knives back in as I entered the theater. I did not want to hate this movie. But I did. I did not find it funny or engaging in the least. For me, Road Trip (2000) was funnier than both of these movies combined, directed by Todd Phillips as well.

They were funky China men

KUNG FU PANDA 2 (2011)

Kung Fu Panda (2008) and its awesomeness was overshadowed by the sheer brilliance and perfection of Wall-E (2008) when they came out in the same year. At least for me. I had to see it again to recollect how funny it was. I'm glad I did it in time for the sequel.

You give love a bad name

PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA (2011)

I'm going to commit film criticism sin here. The sin of liking this movie. This would also be my case for why I am not a film critic but a film lover. But first I'd like to make a case for this movie.

Left the taps running for 100 years

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES (2011)

Yes, yes, I'm a Pirates fan! (I know you expected that) I loved the first three movies. Yes that's one, two, three - all three. I really do no understand why At World's End (the third one) is universally deemed "not as good as the first two". Bollocks! It's probably better than the second, that's what it is. But to be honest, I don't know how to compare them with one another. They are all equal amounts of fun. That too, a LOT of fun! The fourth one, is fun too, however, is not as good as the first three.

8 minutes to save the world

SOURCE CODE (2011)

Science-fiction. This genre has gone through many changes. Metropolis (1927) is now regarded as a masterpiece and a landmark film for the genre. In Hollywood, the genre was stuff of B-grade. Films like The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951), It Came From Outer Space (1953) weren’t really called “great films”. Then came, 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) which is one of the five greatest films ever made and made science fiction a serious film genre. Star Wars (1977) then catapulted it into the mainstream. Summer movies would never be the same again. The Matrix (1999) reinvented this genre after two decades. Suddenly, the cool summer science fiction visual effects masturbation movie was also an intelligent one. (Not the Matrix sequels, that much).

Gotta get down on Thorsday

THOR (2011)

I’ll be doing a great, good and bad kind of review for this one. This won’t be the most eloquent, traditional review so bear with me.

Jagged little pill

LIMITLESS (2011)

Limitless starts off very well, with a lot of promise. A struggling novelist, Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) is in a mess. His girlfriend (Abbie Cornish) dumps him and he is broke. He then bumps into his ex-wife's brother who is a drug dealer. He gives him a pill called NZT which makes a man kind of invincible. The brain, of which we all use only 20 per cent, this pill can let you access 80. Basically, you get superpowers.
